Diets are always a trend moving forward. Right now the rage is vegan but a few years ago it was a gluten free diet. People that didn't have any gluten issues were flocking to this type of eating. But is it for you?
To answer that question let's take a look at how this came to be and move forward. So many people ask me "so what is gluten anyway " Gluten is the binding agent in wheat, rye, and bulgur mainly. The problem has come about because the processing of wheat has taken the grain down to nearly nothing leaving the body confused as to what exactly its trying to digest. The result, in some people, has been an immune response. The body doesn't recognize it and therefore labels it as an invader. The immune system is then called upon and the body has a response to all of this.
Most people also believe it's only a stomach ache, but anyone who has lived through this will tell you it's much worse than that. The digestive system definitely suffers from it and usually first. Swelling of the intestinal tract, diarrhea, throwing up, pain in the stomach, and bloating are usually first symptoms people feel. It can move on to brain fog, skin rashes, joint pain, and many other symptoms that vary from person to person. It can even affect the thyroid gland and its function.
If you're feeling these symptoms and have had a test at the doctor that is negative, you still may be suffering from an intolerance to gluten. Many times these tests actually miss the intolerance completely.
The list of gluten foods is large and a lot of foods have ingredients that hide gluten from you. I am here to help and a lot of the problems can be completely reversed if caught soon enough.
